We’re All In It

http://ivegotcake.com
Last weekend I attended an all day Boston Blogger workshop.

There were about 6 different classes ranging from how to create a Media Kit to Promoting your Blog through Instagram and of course, Photography.

I wasn’t there long enough for our periods to sync together, but it felt good to be in a room full of smart bloggers, earnestly looking for growth.
Who had the same questions I had after encountering the same issues I have.
Felt like we were all in this together you know?

Anyway these are a couple half-assed pictures I took with my tripod on my way there.
Before the Photography class.

  1. I love that your half-assed pictures are mind blowing to me. The artistry of photography eludes me. I don’t have an eye for it, nor am I any good at it, but I do want to invest in a super cool camera and sit for hours reading about technical photography shit and then maybe (MAYBE) be able to take pictures like you do. Until then, I’m still over here blogging iphone pics and graphics created in powerpoint lmao.

    Soooo what I’m getting at is…nice work… πŸ™‚

    1. Hahahah!!
You’re hilarious Liz, thank you so much πŸ™‚
And I’m happy to trade my exactly 2 cents on photography with you whenever you’d like πŸ™‚

  2. Ok Ok you’re working this culottes thing so well I might have to give in and buy a pair. Love those shoes too! That blue color is my absolute favorite.

A blogger workshop sounds awesome, I know there are tons in London maybe I’ll use the excuse one weekend to head over there! What good stuff did you learn about Instagram??

    1. Dude Instagram is a full time JOB.
You’re not supposed to post things back to back, rather every 4 hours.
You should only use 5-7 hashtags.
Separate your personal IG from your blog IG.
Try to have clean backgrounds aka white backgrounds only.
      NO videos.

      FML.

      1. Shit. That’s too much pressure for me haha. I still haven’t gotten around to making a facebook page for my blog let alone it’s whole on instagram!

      2. This is enlightening.
I totally hear you on the full time job thing and Lord knows I DO NOT have the time for that ish!
        Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚

P.S. Your photography without even trying is enviable!

      3. Aw thank you!
And yeah, I’m with you on social media being full time.
I said fuck all that. I don’t need to be popular, I’m doing just fine *smdh*

  3. Hey,
after going through a little bit of a rough patch and not blogging or reading for half a year, I am happy that my favorite blogger is still going at it strongly πŸ™‚ Excited for you to attend such an event and I am looking forward to scrolling through your blog now and seeing what I’ve missed.

Love the shoes btw. I want them πŸ˜€
    xx Lou

  4. I think everything about these pictures is pure perfection…not half-assed in the slightest. If you really want to see some half-assed pics, you should see some of mine LOL. I don’t know if you are familiar with the movie “Death Becomes Her”?. But there is a scene in which Meryl Streep’s character has just been dumped (and embarrassed) by a much younger man who was just using her. Heartbroken she runs away and drives off recklessly into the night. Long story short, she ends up wrecking her car, but not because she is sad over her breakup. Nope. She caught a glimpse of herself crying in the rearview mirror and that scared the daylights out of her! That’s kind of what happens when I look at my half-assed pics…they’re pretty frightening. Consider yourself very, very lucky… and fabulous πŸ™‚

  5. Your “half-assed” tripod photos are still >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>than anything I could likely do, so maybe I should get over myself and practice. πŸ™‚

  6. Love this message, and I wish we had workshops available in STL. The blogging community here is very scattered and not united. I’ve been researching and connecting with a lot of ppl out-of-state.

Love the look, of course – as always, you killed it.

  7. I donΒ΄t care! I LOVE IT! I want your pants! haha
    Yes, your pants!
So last night, I was on instagram right, and I JUST HAD TO tell the bf about you, and declare my love for you to him and we went through your entire gram space. And he says to me
“OMG It looks like IΒ΄m looking at you, even more confusing that her name is Dana, I can see a personality share here, the things she does, so you” I was like
Yeeeeeh cause we Dana-s are cool like that!
    Ya know!
    lol
I just had to tell you this morning, right away
    you look amazeballs!
    x

    1. Hahaha, that’s so freaking awesome!!
Thank you (and him) so much lol. I had no idea my Instajizzle captured so much of my personality πŸ˜€
      Love & Hugs babe!
      xx

  8. Lololol I never follow the “rules” of Instagram and I do just fine. It’s my favorite social platform!

These photos are pretty solid, even if half-assed. Can’t wait to see outfit photos AFTER the photography class!

    xoxo,

  9. Yay I’m glad you’re immersing yourself in the Boston blogger circuit. Have you been before?

I started networking with Auckland bloggers this year and it’s been amazing. There are monthly meet ups and sometimes we bump into each other at other events too. Something about meeting up with highly motivated bloggers who are all going through the same shit but in different genres can be really inspiring.

I’m not saying that what you and I have isn’t great because it is, but if we could face to face that would be awesome. I’m probably going to to visit Boston at some stage right? For research purposes.

    1. Of course – research πŸ˜€

Seriously though, you know it’s funny but I’ve only been around a small group of BBs, I’ve never been to an actual Blogger workshop before.
I’m so with you getting inspiration from other bloggers. Like I was saying, we’re all going through the same shit so we help each other work though it and grow from it, was/is pretty dope.

  10. I haven’t been to your blog in ages. I feel so terrible. What have I missed??!
These shoes kill me softly. I just can’t with them. These culottes though, you rock the hell outta them. I’m so scared to rock a pair because I am so short and I think they might make my legs look weird. Argggh.
That Photography class sounds ideal. I need something like that. Stay cute Dana.

  11. I’ve missed ur posts during my TV Prep ShutDown!! Now back to you- I looove those culottes- they are one of my fav trends at the moment. I have black ones, (which I wish were as long as yours), and I have these wacky tribal print ones…anyhoo a Blogger Masterclass sounds great. Its interesting you mention Instagram, I’m really feeling like a leper as I have no Instagram account. Have a gd Sunday! x

    1. Hahha!!
Time away well taken babe, don’t even worry about it πŸ˜€
As for Instajizzle – that shit is work.
I just post on the ‘I don’t give a fuck’ schedule and it is what it is.
      :/

Hope the TV prep went well boo!!
      xx

  12. Hit me up next time you go to a conference! I’ve really been wanting to go to one. Nothing comes to Louisville, KENNNNtucky. So, I’ll have to come to you, or we’ll go somewhere tropical.

  13. I would love to do a blogger workshop. I don’t think there is anything like that in Seattle. If I keep blogging long term, I might have to travel to take one.

These pictures are not half-assed. I wish I could shoot like you. You look great! Love the sandals.

    1. Thank you so much Asa!
It can be painful trying to find blogger get-togethers but I’m sure Seattle has some.
Most big cities do – I googled them to find the Boston one.

  14. Keep learning and growing your blog, love!!! You are so talented. Sky is the limit for you girl!!!! P.S. Love the culottes on you! xo -Danielle

Go on, get it out..
